A Day Out For Kids – What happens on a farm tour?
Tours take place in and around our farmyard at Bellevue Farm, Blackwaterfoot. A great activity for children and parents alike. Our visitors are taken for a relaxed walk round our working farm and will meet our farm animals along the way. We’ve also got a few special friends in the form of our donkeys – Hamish & Murphy, Tabitha, our miniature Shetland pony, highland cows, chicks, rabbits, ducks and hens – and Benita, Granada and Eriskay, our cuddly alpacas. You can see machinery, tractors and hear the story of real life on an island farm.
The nature of the tour depends upon the season, weather and conditions at the time – every day on the farm is different!
Visitors will be taken as part of a group and are encouraged to get up close and be involved but need only do what they are comfortable with.
Tours normally last for 1.5 to 2 hours and we are more than happy to answer any questions that you may have.
When are the tours?
Tours take place daily:
|April/May/June||1 tour/day @ 1.30 pm *|
|July/August||2 tours/day @ 10am & 2pm|
|September/October||1 tour/day @ 1.30pm *|
|* (please have your lunch before you come)|
Who can do a Farm Tour?
Everyone can take part in a farm tour although we state that one adult (18 or over) should be responsible for no more than two children.
We ask that visitors leave their pets at home.
There can be mucky, rough and steep areas on the tour where it might be difficult to push a buggy. If required, this part of the tour can be left out. Please contact by email to discuss before the tour begins.
Do we need to book our Farm Tour?
Yes. We limit the number of people on a tour for safety reasons, so we ask that you book your tour before you come. Priority will always be given to people who have booked in advance. Please see booking information to the right.
Do we need to bring anything?
As this is a working farm, we suggest that you wear wellies or similar footwear. It is also sensible to bring waterproof clothing if the forecast is changeable.
Do you cater for large parties?
Yes, we are happy to take larger parties and do bespoke tours by prior arrangement.
What if the weather is bad?
Tours will continue, even if it is rainy however we may alter our route to try to make the best of the weather. If the forecast looks particularly bad, we may decide to cancel the tour first thing in the morning. If this happens, we will rearrange your tour to another day.
